Consulting has been a service category misused for too long mostly with little results, but high costs. Consultants were seen as hardly approachable luxury resources in expensive suits who looked very busy doing something important, but we were all wondering about the results after they left.
This poor reputation is mainly due to the fact that consultants were not specialized within the field where they supposed to advise and carry out work, which case they mitigated by distancing themselves from the Client organization. In other cases on competitive multi-vendor landscape the consultants rather represented the interest of their Consulting Firm instead of the Customer distancing themselves from the other Vendors.
